Maintaining direct access to the garden, the kitchen kept its compact footprint at the lowest level of the house. Working within the constraints of the modest ceiling height, the design cleverly consolidated lighting and ductwork, defined by a decorative wood panel, to create a feeling of greater height overall. Reflecting the owner’s passion for art and craftsmanship, the kitchen featured custom stained wood and glass cabinets, complemented by stainless steel countertops and a bespoke hood. Handmade glass tiles were designed and sized for the sophisticated patterned backsplash.

The garden project began with replacing a failing retaining wall. The owner desired a beautiful garden and peaceful retreat but also a safe space for two rambunctious dogs. Meticulous planning ensured functionality without compromising aesthetics. A concealed yard drain beneath pebbles facilitated easy maintenance while preserving the garden's charm. Strategically placed plants in pots deterred the dogs from digging, keeping the garden’s pristine appearance. Basalt pebbles, chosen for their durability and odor resistance, maintained a fresh environment suitable for humans and canine companions.  The garden's modern touch came from the new retaining wall veneered with thin slate, complemented by granite pavers for an outdoor dining area ideal for gatherings and meals al fresco.

In both the kitchen and garden, practicality seamlessly merged with beauty, showcasing thoughtful design choices that enhanced daily life and delighted the senses of those who enjoyed them.
